Lalka on Netflix: great story, beautiful cast, slightly cold colours
My first impressions of Netflix's new Lalka while I'm still watching: very well played, an amazing story and a great cast, but cold colours.
I'm in the middle of watching Lalka on Netflix, the new six-part series based on Bolesław Prus's classic novel, and I wanted to share my views so far. I'm really enjoying it.

It is very well played. Tomasz Schuchardt as Wokulski and Sandra Drzymalska as Izabela Łęcka carry the story, and the supporting cast, with Dariusz Chojnacki as Rzecki, Jacek Braciak and Magdalena Cielecka, is just as strong. It's a beautiful cast.
The story still works, more than 130 years after Prus wrote it. Director Paweł Maślona and his co-writers Paweł Demirski and Jagoda Dutkiewicz don't follow the book page by page. They tell it their own way, and for me that made it feel fresh rather than like a school reading.
My one wish is about the look. The colours are quite cold, and at times that made it feel a bit cheaper than it is. Warmer tones would have suited the period and the people better.
So far, I'd recommend it. If you watched it too, I'm curious what you thought. And if you want more, there is also a separate Lalka film in cinemas, with Marcin Dorociński and Kamila Urzędowska.
